2011

2011, is fast approaching and on a personal note I am glad to see the back of 2010 but what can we expect in 2011?

A Wiley/Dizzee Rascal collabo?

Didier Drogba with a skinhead?

What Drogba usually looks like.

More jobs for the unemployed?

What do you guys think? Feel free to leave a comment.

P.S Arsenal winning the league would be nice!

TOTR's: One's to watch for 2011!

Maxsta

East London is definitely back with this youngster and don't you forget the name Maxsta. After a fairly successful year and also releasing two mix tapes the 'Maxtape' and 'The Come Up' this busy young lad has firmly cemented his credentials as the next big thing. Think Maxsta and the comparisons of a young Dizzee are not far behind. Look out for him!

J. Cole

J Cole the rapper not the footballer has been around for a little minute, patiently biding his time whilst wetting our pallet with his mix tapes. Yet to release his debut album "Cole World" (dropping in December) J Cole the first artist to be signed to Roc Nation has been teasing us with a variety of mix tapes. Most recent one being "Friday nights lights" , evidently talented and with a lot to say I have no doubt that J Cole will be taking his place among raps elite in no time soon.

Jessie J

Jessie J is the lady of the moment, everyone and their cat has been banging on about this young lady and it's justified. Signed to Island Records Jessie J released the visuals to her first single "Like a dude" and in under a week has already reached 2million views. People watch this space 2011 will be Jessie J's year.

Mac Miller

Mac Miller, a 19 year old rapper Hailing from “The Burgh” Pittsburgh USA has been making some serious strides over the pond, currently signed to Rostrum Records he recently released his latest mix tape K.I.D.S (Kicking Incredibly Dope Shit). After a great response he plans to release another mix tape Best Day Ever in December, look out for the debut album dropping in 2011!

Ed Sheeran

The singer-songwriter from Suffollk is on the verge of big things, signed to Elton John's management and appearing on Jamie Foxx's radio show in California. It seems like Ed is well on his way, always with his trusted guitar Ed Sheeran has played and continues to play at a host of gigs and none other than our night TOTR in December (make sure you're there). Keep tabs on Ed Sheeran, I don't want to say I told you so.

Adele - Rolling In The Deep

New music and footage of Adele recording her next album entitled '21' which is due for release in Jan 2011 on XL recordings.

It's been a while since we've heard anything new from the Grammy award winner and to be honest it's been long overdue. I think the music "scene" on a whole has missed her, I am thoroughly excited about her pending new material.

What are your thoughts on the track "rolling in the deep"?

Professor Green ft. Maverick Sabre - Jungle

This is by far the best track on Pro Green's album and to be fair he does his bit but to be honest Maverick Sabre owns this.

Produced by True Tiger go support the cause and help it chart, cop it on iTunes now.

Turn Off The Radio

Okay, so I’ve been having a little fun over the past week making this video (track inspired by Duck Sauce).

Most of the footage are random bits filmed over the year, all the photos are from past TOTR events. The video was fun to make and I hope that comes across to you when you watch it.

Thank you to all who wanted to appear in it and I hope you enjoy it. Please share with friends and comments are welcome.

We have a Christmas Party to announce so look out for the details to be posted pretty soon.

Tune Of The Day!

Goldielocks - Magic Carpet

Myspace to be resurrected

Myspace has undergone a massive redesign, but will it make a difference. Back in the day Myspace was the "social network of social networks" (Facebook and Twitter were no where to be seen). Now Myspace is a social grave yard full of dead profiles with Facebook and Twitter now ruling the roost.

I remember a time when logging into Myspace and having millions (slight exaggeration) of strangers friend requesting me, pretending they were earning £250,000 + a year. There would also be a thousand and one profiles of "emo" girls taking photos of themselves poking their tongues out.

Now when I log into Myspace I have a million spam emails (no exaggeration), a thousand event invites and one friend request from a latino model (who's not a real person) claiming to be looking for friendship, has just moved to London and has no friends.

The new Myspace is aimed at musicians and promoters:

"The new feautures (not released in the UK until mid November) will make it easier for users to share and promote content they enjoy and recommend it to their friends. This means users can finally promote themselves or their company within MySpace instead of directing people to their profile page".

This is a clear indication Myspace will not be competing with Facebook and looks like it is going back to it's musical roots.

Well time will tell if Myspace will ever regain it's "top social network" title, but I a now occasional Myspace user rather than avid is not sure. However, I will be giving it a try.

No More Technics?

DJ's favourite Technics are to be discontinued by their makers Panasonic, apparently? This is the second rumor in under a year quoting that Panasonic will cease making the beloved Technics.

If it's true then this is a damn shame and a timely boost to the digital DJ market.

Winter Essentials

The weather of late seems to be getting mighty cold, so I see it as my duty to invest in some winter essentials to keep myself warm.

What do you think?

NME - The Cool List 2010

Katy B and Giggs have made NME's notorious "cool" list for 2010. The annual list features the likes of Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and Janelle Monae but for me Katy B and Giggs are welcome additions this year.

To see the complete "Cool list" get yourself over to NME now.

Maxsta - Free Download

East London MC Maxsta has released another mix tape. Ever since his last mix tape "East London is Back" Maxsta has gone from strength to strength and has been touted as the next grime MC to go mainstream (if he does let's hope he doesn't do a chipmunk).

The Come Up Maxsta's new mix tape is 14 tracks deep and features TOTR fav Maverick Sabre plus many, many more.

Kerry Leatham A64

We had Kerry Leatham perform at TOTR alongside Katy B, The Illersapians and Dot Rotten this time last year. She was brilliant to say the least and it's not surprising to see SB:TV giving her the opportunity to show case her ability in this A64.

If I am honest I thought she'd be bigger now than she is, she's a talented singer songwriter and even had a track feature on the Adulthood soundtrack.

It's good to see her still about, making music and hopefully she will get more chances to get her music heard by a wider audience.

Get to know about this kid........Mac Miller

Kurran and The Wolfnotes‏ Q&A

Taking time out from their busy schedule folk band Kurran and The Wolfnotes met us for some Q&A. We talk Fleetwood Mac, Facebook and the UK music 'scene', check it out.

TOTR: Introduce yourselves?

K&W:
We're the Kurran and The Wolfnotes. Kurran (vocals and guitar), Chris (drums and vocals), Tim (lead guitar vocal) and Ben (bass).

TOTR: Cool name, how did you come up with it?

K&W:
Wish we could remember. A wolfnote is when you hit a stringed instrument at a certain point that makes the string howl. Someone told us that and we thought it sounded cool.

TOTR: Describe your sound?

K&W:
We try and mix more traditional folk music with our favourite contemporaries. I think we end up sounding one part The Smiths, one part Bob Dylan and two parts Brand New.

TOTR: Tell us the creative process behind your songs?

Kurran: I will usually bring a song into the band in a very simple form. Then we tussle it around the rehearsal room till it makes sense. Which can take days.

TOTR: who inspires you musically?

K&W: As a band we don't think they come much better than Radiohead. Some of the tour bus favourites are Bowerbirds, Fleetwood Mac, Manchester Orchestra, Modest mouse and The Pixies.

TOTR: Do you prefer to be in the studio creating music or onstage performing?

Kurran: Being on stage. I feel like the songs live and grow with you, and they get delivered how you feel then and there. Recordings are just capturing how you felt about it at that moment. Which has its purpose of course, but I don't listen to the recordings myself once they are done.

TOTR: As a band where do you see your place within the UK music scene?

Kurran: I really don't know. It’s still a bit of shock that we've got this far. If we could be going in to do a second album then that would be good. But we're still finishing the first.

TOTR: What are your plans for the next 12 months?

K&W: We'll be releasing the album early next year, and then touring it as much as we can for the next coming year.

TOTR: Last, but by no means least what do you prefer Twitter or Facebook?

Kurran: I wish I could use either. I'm going to go for facebook because they are probably watching me right now.

Marvell - We Know

I saw Marvell live on the Ipswich leg of Chipmunk's Shine, Shine tour (courtesy of Boxfresh) and they really impressed me.

They performed this track last on their set and absolutely tore the place down, I was slyly singing the chorus too. It's destined to be a hit.

Go cop it on October 10th.
