Donn T

Donn T is kaleidoscopic. Her self titled debut album follows suit with a broad spectrum of styles, that takes you from the scene of the late 70’s and mid 80’s post-disco New York, to the underground clubs of Chicago and Continental Europe. It visits stripped-down London electronic funk influenced sounds, tecky minimal Berlin soul, and soothing melodies that leave you with an appetite for more.

In the eyes of TOTR Donn T is a breath of fresh air, musically different and definitely not your average artist. Sister to the Root's ?uestlove, she is a 'One to watch' and that is for sure.

Dancehall Battle

I think it's safe to say the girl got beat.

Bruce Lash - Lithium

I was watching Marley and Me for the first time the other day (top film btw)and I heard this version of Nirvana's lithium. It's totally different from the original and personally I think it's great.

The song features on Bruce Lash's album 'Prozak for lovers II' which is well worth a listen.

Brownswood Bubblers Four

Brownswood Recordings is a London-based indie label from globe trotting purveyor of all sounds soulful and inspired, Gilles Peterson. They opened their doors in 2006 with the simple aim of releasing good new music, music with soul regardless of genre and style.

Brownswood are also responsible for the compilation albums 'Brownswood Bubblers'. The most recent release 'Brownswood Bubblers four' which was released yesterday is a must have.

I already own a copy and it has been on repeat ever since. BB four features a wide spectrum of music from artists such as Mayer Hawthorne, El Michaels Affair to Floating point.

Highly recommended.

Whitney Houston - Million Dollar Bill

Personally, I like it but is this comeback material? It has an ol' school, rare groove feel to it. But can this type of tune hold its own in the charts I doubt it.

Opinions please....

Charlie Sloth Freestyle

If I am honest I don't really rate Charlie Sloth as a rapper I think there are far better rappers than him out there. They just don't have his work ethic......

However, I am the type of person to give credit where credit is due and this freestyle is 'ARD!

All American Dumbness

Of recent you all have seen me post things up about the Raekwon and Joe Budden beef. Personally, I think the beef is some what funny but also very stupid at the same time and is summed up greatly in this latest post by jay

Majestic

After years honing his craft as an MC and becoming one of the brightest sparks on the UK Garage circuit, Majestic is set for his first release ‘In The VIP’ on October 7th 2009 through Biglife Records.

Following in the footsteps of mammoth tunes such as ‘Wearing my Rolex ’ and ‘African Warrior’ comes the most anthemic club banger of the summer months in the form of ‘In The VIP’. Produced by the Wideboys, this up-tempo Electro House rommpa stompa hits you with hyperactive synths, an irrepressible bass line and an infectious vocal hook that stays in your head all night and beyond.

‘In The VIP’ which is currently tearing up the club circuit and has been championed from DJs as diverse as Ras Kwame and Kissy Sellout through to Mista Jam, Nihal and Sinden.

Following on from the extensive buzz that has built up on ‘In The VIP’ over the summer and with a video soon to follow, Big Life Records are delighted to launch Majestic’s first foray into the mainstream, a place he plans to occupy for a long time to come.

To find out more about Majestic and to listen to the rest of Majestics banging tunes check out his Myspace.

O2 iPhone exclusivity to end October 9th

Although there has been plentiful speculation about O2 losing its iPhone exclusivity over the last few weeks, sister site Mobile Entertainment has seen documentation that states it will end officially on October 9th.

O2 signed its original deal with Apple in late 2007, and is believed to have the rights to sell iPhone to 2012.

Orange and T-Mobile have been linked heavily with iPhone over the summer, and both networks already sell the device in other territories.

Orange was the first network to sell the iPhone around Europe, while T-Mobile stocks the device exclusively in Germany.

Indeed, a report by The Register on Monday stated that T-Mobile UK had already begun shipping iPhones discreetly to big-spending customers.

A spokesperson for O2 would not be drawn on the October 9th date. He said (vaguely): "All I can say is that O2 has a multi-year exclusive on iPhone - and that this remains in place."

A broadening of distribution for iPhone in the UK would not be too dramatic. The device is sold in round 80 countries and is currently exclusive only in the US, UK and Germany.

Joe Budden calls out Raekwon

This guy really needs to keep quiet and just release some music, mind you he's not really a great rapper is he. He is more known for his 'Vlogging' rather than being a rapper.

The Future 50 - The Innovators

WTF NME, The future 50 innovators? And you have included La Roux, Lady GaGa and Jack White. Come on NME you have got to be kidding.

As a music lover and a lover of all music to name Lady GaGa as an innovator of music has insulted me. What has she done for the music industry apart saturate it with garbage and carry around a tea cup. La Roux sounds like a whining cat over Electro beats and Jack White looks like dead weather.

The list is a complete farce, where are musicians like The Maccabees, Mpho, Theophilus London. Real artists and true innovators of sound. NME you're pathetic.

Maybe I am being harsh after all it is an opinion right? There are some folk on the list who deserve to be there like Dizzee Rascal who shows no signs of slowing down and Micachu a great emerging talent with a unique sound. Just the two then!!! ha ha

For the complete list click here. Am I being harsh opinions please.

Larrikin Love

What could have become of Larrikin Love? They were a really good band only active for two years and then they "amicably" split.

They split up just before the release of their debut album 'The Freedom Spark' which nationally went to No.37 in the charts, better than most I may add.

Apparently, Edward Larrikin the former lead singer of the band is working on a solo project which will be similar to the kind of stuff he did with Larrikin Love so look out for that.

For those who knew of Larrikin Love, lets pay homage:

Long live Viny

Spotify and iTunes are both convenient sources to buy and listen to music, just like going into a record shop and doing the same. You cannot doubt the unassuming pleasure one gets from digging for vinyl or playing a classic record.

Many may have thought that buying an iPod and downloading from the net has caused vinyl to die a slow death, but they would have been wrong. It's still in production and business is as strong as ever.

Please read this article.
