Candle Thieves to support Badly Drawn Boy!

The Candle Thieves will be heading out on a UK tour supporting Badly Drawn Boy in October.

The tour will follow the release of the perky duo's forthcoming EP, ‘The Happiness Blues’ which is released on the 13th September, through Carnival Town Records. Fronted by the Casio-led pop squiggle of the deliciously oddball ‘Sunshine Song’, ‘The Happiness Blues EP’ continues where ‘Sunshine & Other Misfortunes’ left off, with more endearing and evocative leftfield indie-pop.

Since their introduction at the turn of the year, The Candle Thieves have spent the majority of their time taking their colourful toytown instrumentation to the kitchens, back gardens and local pubs of the UK, and playing high-profile U.S support slots with The Scissor Sisters and David Gray. They are currently holed up in their Peterborough bedroom studio developing the song ideas written on the road.

Tour dates as follows:

OCTOBER

13th Stockton Arc
15th Nottingham Albert Hall
16th Scarborough Spa Theatre
17th Holmfirth Picturedrome
18th Birmingham Town Hall
20th Glasgow Old Fruitmarket
21st Manchester Royal Northern
25th Bristol St Georges
26th Brighton Duke of Yorks
27th London Bloomsbury Theatre
28th London Bloomsbury Theatre

The Candle Thieves are back!

After a brief spell away the Candle Thieves have returned with a new 4 track EP entitled 'Happiness Blues' to be released digitally on the 13th September 2010.

Over the summer Scott and Glock have been busy spreading their brand of sunshine laden melancholy, playing in peoples Gardens, Living rooms, Kitchens, and Bedrooms as well as signing to Downtown records (Miike Snow, White Denim, Major Lazer) and supporting a whole bunch of people ranging from David Gray to My Chemical Romance.

While bouncing around the UK the guys took to putting some ideas to paper and the result was the 'Happiness Blues EP'. A small slice of Candle Thieves goodness and another example of why their first LP 'Sunshine And Other Misfortunes' captured the hearts of critics and fans alike earlier this year.

This EP once again showcases their ability to make emotive and rich indie pop without being saccharine.

Album Review - The Candle Thieves: Sunshine and Other Misfortunes

Peterborough's pop duo Scott McEwan and Glockenshiels not only steal candles but, have just stolen over forty minutes of my life that I am never going to get back. Am I complaining? Absolutely not.

The spectacle wearing pair have just released their debut album and what an endearing effort it is. Think 'The Bird and The Bee' meets 'The Magic Numbers' . It's a massive, heap of uplifting pop, a definite well timed release for the pending summer.

There is a reoccurring theme of death, however, this is not a morbid album it's quite the opposite and with track entitled We're All Gonna Die (Have Fun). The message is simple, enjoy yourselves.

I definitely enjoyed this album and no doubt you will too. Stand out tracks are 'Sharks and Bears' and 'Catching wasps'.

This album, Sunshine and Other Misfortunes, is certainly not unique but it is bittersweet and bright and worthy of a listen.
